Budding Blog and Five for Friday 5/17

Happy Friday!
Not too many Fridays left of the school year...
It's been crazy and fabulous at the same time!

First, I'm linking up with I {heart} Recess and her Budding Blog Linky for those of us with less than 200 followers.
 Here are the FIVE questions...
1. Why did you start blogging?
2. What is your favorite subject to teach and why?
3. Describe your teaching style.
4. Give three interesting facts about you.
5. Do you have a TpT store? If yes, post the link :)

And HERE are MY five answers:
1. I started blogging because I love to talk! I love to be out there and share ideas and get ideas. I say what's on my mind (although I admit to being a little more careful about what I say when I blog...hmmmm...). I love to stalk other blogs and love getting replies or feedback.

2. I don't have ONE favorite subject to teach. I have favorite topics in each subject. I have a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction and I'm very hands on, especially with the kids. I like to bring real life to all the lessons I can. I'm BIG in teaching about the environment and compassion.

3. LOL my teaching style... I have HIGH expectations and am a tough "grader". I am energetic, loud, crazy, and love chaotic structure. So, my class is structured and I teach my students when it's ok to joke and when it's time to be serious (although there's always fun in seriousness). We often get off topic with questions and my students learn to question lots. They are thinkers and questioners. I am always on the go with learning and take every opportunity to learn something new or explore. I get VERY excited.

 4. Interesting???
~I used to twirl the baton back in the 80's as a kid and marched in parades.
~I swear/cuss... A LOT (it's amazing how I can turn it off and on)
~I love music and sing all the time...at home, in the car, in class...and I'm not even good---but I don't care

 5. I have a TPT store and am amazed at how many people have downloaded my stuff! There's not a whole lot in it...but peeps like it!

AND second...Five for Friday!

Here's my week-

1. Baby Robins... The baby robins in my kids' playhouse/swingset hatched this week! So adorable! And the pic was perfect for class to discuss Habitats! So sweet!

2. 4th Grade Chicks...One teacher let me borrow the bucket of chicks for the kids to play with. We all sat in a big oval and let the chicks run around, climb on us, and explore. We alllll loved to hold them!

3. Poetry Jam... Each year 3rd grade studies poetry and as a culminating activity, we invite all the parents in to our classrooms to listen to the kids recite their own poetry or poetry by another author.
HUGE SUCCESS! Parents adored it and the kids did a fantastic job! Here-we are getting our background ready...

4. P!NK... My students are well aware of my Love for P!nk... This week one of my loves brought me a copy of the latest Glamour Magazine because Pink is on the cover! SO THOUGHTFUL!

5. iPads... Been working with Geoboards in fractions... Students completed an assignment/activity so I let them "play around" on the Geoboard App. They were soooo creative. It was nice to see how creative they can get...

That's all for now! I know, it's a long post... but fun!
Have a wonderful weekend!

FIVE FOR FRIDAY May 3 and entering the last 48 hours--GIVEAWAY!

Linking up with Doodle Bugs Five for Friday Linky Party!

1. INSTAGRAM--I've joined the Instagram Craze...

SOMETHING I learned that I didn't expect...My kiddos know why I take pics in class without their names showing and faces. They were all excited when I told them I put pics on Instagram to share ideas with other teachers...so they asked if they could follow. I thought...sure why not, I'm not hiding anything and I keep it mostly professional anyhow. Well, they loved the idea, looked me up and added their own comments. Ummmm, I didn't think it all the way through. When I posted a pic that said something like "easy iPad activity"...I meant my audience to be teachers and meant for the "easy" part to be the setting up...not the activity. SO a couple of my students commented that it was NOT easy. Hahahaha.  Then one of my little loves called me out by name! As you know or may have figured out...I don't go by my real name on here or anywhere else... It was a great conversation on Wednesday about Internet Safety with a bunch of 3rd graders.

Follow my Instagram here.

2. Meet the Artist- We don't have art teachers or an art class at our school. Once a month, volunteers (moms, dads, aunts, uncles, etc.) come in and teach "Art Appreciation". They focus on one artist each month, give background, then do an art activity with the kids. At the end of the school year we have art week to display the art work from the year and host Meet the Artist. Local artists come in and teach about their artwork. Kids rotate to each station, listen to a short presentation and complete a make it take it. It's really fabulous!

There was a puppeteer, an artist that worked with mosaics, and an artist who presented pointillism.

3. WORMS-I've taught How to Eat Fried Worms for the past 15 years. I bring in live worms, we watch how worms turn soil, lots and lots of worms. Here's a kiddo being silly with one of the earthworms I brought in for an activity.

4. Native American Sand Painting- In SS we are studying Native Americans. One little lesson talks about Sand Painting, so the kids made their own sand paintings using colored chalk on construction paper of an ill person they know.

5. Giveaway- If you are reading this and enter the Rafflecopter...YOU have a really good chance of winning the kit below! Click on the pic to take you to the Rafflecopter to enter the giveaway! You won't be disappointed!

I feel like this post is super long and I feel like I could have talked about SO MUCH MORE!
Enjoy your weekend!

MAY Currently and GIVEAWAY!!!

WOW! It's MAY!
That must mean it's time for Farley's CURRENTLY! Join the party! I'm way late to the party, but I was just toooo tired last night to join.

Listening to American Idol...someone just got kicked off...now Grey's is on...waiting for my fave-Scandal.

Loving that I have a personal day tomorrow! Woo too! Supposed to rain all day, but I don't even care. My hubby and I are attending a Principal's Award ceremony for our Oldest daughter. She will be honored after a nice catered breakfast. We are so proud of all our kids!

Thinking...Lawd, I have a lot of papers to grade! The weather the past few days has been fabulous and I have completely procrastinated and papers have piled up. Well, it's supposed to rain here for 4 days, so I can get caught up then!

Wanting a new phone. I have the old-fashioned iPhone 3gs. But I don't want to spend money...

Needing my hair done again! I am in desperate need of a highlight and I just don't have the time. Softball, dance, drama club, and work are all in the way of my roots!

Summer Bucket List...this one was hard for me to think about. I want to take my girls fishing...nothing big, just to a little lake or pond. Haven't done that and hubby and I were talking about it. I need to finish organizing what I started over Spring Break...and I must take the girls to the beach! I love the beach. Hubby is not a fan of the beach... but we love it!

Don't forget to enter my giveaway! Click on the pic below to take you to the post to enter the Rafflecopter! Only a couple of days left and it's an awesome Fraction Pack!

Enjoy!
