Happy Sunday Everyone! I reviewed a Common Core Fraction Kit by ETA hand2mind and they agreed to give one of my readers a CCSS Fraction Kit! Click on the picture and it will take you to the post to enter. This stuff is over $100!!! Good Luck!
It is FRIDAY! WOO HOO! So that means it's time for FIVE FOR FRIDAY!
Click on the pic to join the Friday Night Party hosted by Doodle Bugs Teaching!
Here's my week...
1. Diorama---Kids had to choose a habitat and create a diorama for our Ecosystems Unit. They turned out great! They also had to present the habitat to the class and tell facts about it. Here's just one example...it wasn't the best and it wasn't the worst either...just one I took a pic of...
2. RE- I teach Religious Ed one night a week at our church and it was the LAST WEEK! I am so happy I can cross that off my list of things to do...but I'm going to miss those kids! I taught 10 sixth graders. For some reason, they loved me teaching the class. I didn't do anything all that special. We read out of the book, chatted LOTS, and did some activities. I had them review the year and they had such great things to say to me! Made me feel good because my specialty is 3rd grade...not 6th. When I walked into class on Wednesday night, this is what greeted me...
Super nice coming from 6th graders...I wasn't expecting it at all. It seems like RE is something kids don't look forward to...so I'm glad they were able to enjoy it! We had some really mature conversations.
3. Sweet Skull- Today, we had "Muffins with Mom" as a PTO fundraiser at school. One mom walked her son to class and they gave me a little gift. She told me that they went on vacation to Alabama and went shopping at Lulu's (Jimmy Buffet's sister's store) and he INSISTED on buying me the skull necklace below. She thought he was crazy and didn't want to get it for me. She was almost embarrassed to give it to me. Well, of course, I made a HUGE deal about it...how much I loved it and explained to the mom that I do love skulls. I showed her my second ear piercing which has a tiny silver skull in it. IT WAS sooooo SWEET of him to think of me on vacation! He saw that skull and KNEW his teacher MUST have it! Now... to find an outfit I can wear next week to show it off... ;)
4. Favorite Teacher-The students in our district were hounded encouraged by admin to write a letter about your favorite teacher...well, one of my former students, who is now in 6th grade, wrote about me. Her mom emailed me the letter. IT SOOOO TOUCHED MY HEART to the core! I replied and said that I don't care if we "win" or not, because that letter means more to me than she even knows! Read it! It's SOOOOO ME. It's exactly how I want my students to view me as a teacher! The only thing I changed in her essay is my real name...they had to keep the essay to 200 words or less.
I am the luckiest girl! I was contacted to review ETA hand2mind's Common Core Fraction Kit!
And I have to tell you, I love it! I've used it to introduce the standards, supplement other lessons, and in small groups to reteach.
The kit is AMAZING. It's PACKED with everything-you-need to address the CCSS for fractions!
Look at this! Yes! Those are baby Versatiles in there! They are soooo cute.
I also received the Grade 3 Hands-On Standards CC Fractions Book for teachers!
It's loaded with step by step lessons to teach fractions to your students. There are six lessons on Understanding Fractions, three lessons for Equivalent Fractions, and three lessons for Comparing Fractions!
Each lesson Sets the Stage with a warm-up and skill practice.
Next the lesson Introduces the Concept with modeling, hands-on practice and guided practice.
Then the lesson Reinforces the Concept with check for understanding, independent practice and remediation. The book even has Enrichment activities! There are so many games the kids can play with hands-on and on-line interaction.
SO here's what I LOVE about this whole kit and kaboodle...
~The Book has step by step lessons for the CCSS Fractions
~There are worksheets to download, black line masters to use, AND a technology component
~The hands-on kit is so fabulous! It has 2 baby (because they are smaller than the original size) Versatiles Sets and books, Deluxe Rainbow Fraction circle sets, Cuisenaire Rods, Fraction Dominoes, Fraction Tower Cards, Geoboards, Beginner Dual Scale Rulers...and I'm sure I'm forgetting something else!
~Everything you need to model on your projector/Elmo and everything you need for small group instruction.
~The Dominoes, Fraction Tower Cards, and Versatiles are fabulous for using as independent practice or buddy games.
~Versatiles are self-checking
I'm so excited about this pack...I'll be BEGGING my Principal for a class set! OHHHH or maybe even a GRADE LEVEL SET?!?!?!
