FIVE for FRIDAY 2/22

Well, that was quite a "short" week! Power packed with craziness!

I'm joining Doodle Bugs Teaching for their Five for FRIDAY Linky Party!

Here's my Five Randomness...

ONE...We are moving nicely on our Multiplication Rock Star quickie quizzes (just started last week...delay to catch up on other things...)! Here's the bulletin board in class for the kids to track progress...They colored their Rock Star bodies and I attached their school photo head to the bodies! Awesome! Once they pass a test, the can move their Rock Star...

TWO... ISAT Boot Camp!
The Illinois State Tests are coming up QUICKLY....1st week in March...SOOOO Next week is Boot Camp!
This year we kicked it up a notch and ordered T-Shirts! The kids have caught on from previous years...and are excited to take the tests!!! Next week, we line the kids up in the hall ways...go over test testing techniques, sing cadences, give small prizes for outstanding "soldiers"...and SO MUCH MORE... I will have a full post on this soon. Here's our T-shirts...They are camel in color with dark green lettering...
THREE...SNOW
We finally got some more measurable snow. I snapped a quick pic this morning before leaving for work from upstairs...Our cul-du-sac was not plowed yet...but hubby shoveled the driveway and sidewalk. When I got home from work...the kids were out in the snow playing.

FOUR...Popcorn! Got home from work and my fabulous hubby stopped at a shop and bought me some caramel and cheese layered popcorn! YUM...nice snack in front of the TV in my comfy pants...relaxing!
FIVE...Great overall week in Third Grade. Lots of learning... Some testing prep... Lots of laughs with my team mates. We stayed after work today to set up the Third Grade Hallway for ISAT Boot Camp.I love productive days!

FIVE FOR FRIDAY!

My first FIVE FOR FRIDAY Linky over at Doodle Bugs! A couple of days late...But I'm here nonetheless!

Five Random Things About My Week...

1. I presented the math algorithms at our staff meeting. (see blog post below). I was super happy when a staff member complimented me on my presentation skills! She said she was engaged in the whole thing even though she's not a classroom teacher and doesn't like math! She said my enthusiasm was contagious. How fun! It's nice to receive a great compliment from a staff member!

2. I was writing my newsletter and thinking out loud while students were working on something...and when I was deciding between a period or exclamation to end a sentence...one of my quick, witty students--who sits in a group right by my desk said...."You should just end ALL your sentences with exclamations because that's how you always are". I took that as a compliment!

3. Valentine's Day... So sweet... got some flowers, M&Ms (fave), chocolates, new water cup, giant "Kiss"... home made cards... My students sooo "get" me and my humor! LOVE THEM!

4. We worked on a simple naming fractions activity with M&Ms! It was fun, great discussions on what would happen to the fraction if we ate one M&M...

 5. DEAR-Love a good book...We had some DEAR (drop everything and read) times on Valentine's Day. I have lots of pics of my kids all snuggled up with a good book...but at the moment I have no patience to blur out their faces...so that'll have to wait for another time! They looked ADORABLE...I have a giant bean bag in my room and one girl was smack dab in the center and about 7 kids were in a clock shape lying around the edges! Too cute! Made me smile.

Enjoy your Monday off!

Proud Parent, SUBTRACTION, Lasagna

What a week! It was FANTASTIC!
Last Sunday, after Big-kid's Confirmation (woo hoo!) I got a call on my cell phone (number I didn't recognize)...then on our home phone...ARGH, it was her Principal! Why is he calling on a Sunday Night?! Oh no, what has happened?!
Well, it was just to invite my husband and me to a Breakfast because she's held a 4.0 or above all of Jr. High! WOW! So Proud...
THEN Monday after school she comes home to tell us she is one of four being considered for VALEDICTORIAN! I always knew she was bright...but never knew how she measured against her peers. SO PROUD! As far as I'm concerned...she IS the Valedictorian!

LATER in the week...Mid-Kid comes home and tells us she won the class talent show and is moving forward to the school-wide talent show! How Exciting! She and a friend are performing the "cup song"...you know the one from Pitch Perfect....I was all ACA-SCUSE ME?! You're advancing?! FABULOUS! Her friend does the beat with the cups and Mid-Kid sings the song.

Subtraction...
In November I attended the NCTM Conference in Chicago. Day started out quite interesting. My teacher friend and I boarded the train to downtown at 6 AM...then we were so punished lucky to get into "Cowboy Cabby's" Cab! Um....google it.. find him on YouTube... Let's just say it was about 7 AM and we had to listen to a man whose prime was in the 60's...BLAST disco music...all while clicking on and off the black light on the disco ball... Did I mention it was 7 AM?!?!?! I couldn't stop laughing as he shouted at us (because the music was so so loud) and showed us his claim to fame article in the newspaper...all laminated for all to view.

We then arrive at the convention center...I attend the first presentation on my agenda and about 25 minutes into it...the presenter VOMITS all over...not in a trash can...all over. I really felt bad for her...but my day wasn't getting any better... More so-so presentations later...

I get to the LAST presentation of the day...I was exhausted  thrilled to be there... WELL-Let-Me-Tell-You... it was the best presentation of the DAY! I walked out of that 60 minute presentation with other ways to SUBTRACT. Who would have known?!?! How have I been teaching for 15 years and NOT KNOW THIS?!

Now on pages 6-7, you will see an algorithm from France...
TRY IT, USE IT, PRACTICE IT!!!! I'm so not kidding. I tried it with my class and it was AMAZING how fast the kids caught on! It made SUBTRACTING with regrouping EASIER! We practiced on whiteboards several times and I gave a homework assignment where they had to use the "Give, Give It Back" (as I call it).... Parents were skeptical...But it was a HUGE, GINORMOUS SUCCESS! I am telling you...TRY IT!

Now, on to Lasagna... so today I made a lovely, delicious (if I do say so myself) pan of home made lasagna. I made my own home made sauce... we all sat down with some garlic bread, lasagna and enjoyed our yummy dinner...after tummies were full...I went ahead and put the pan on the stove to cool before storing the left-overs...Those who know me can predict what I'm about to say...

...
I'm working on this post, as a matter of fact, the kids are downstairs playing darts with their dad...and I hear a noise coming from the kitchen....
...I look over and my beloved in big trouble Labrador Retriever...Jack...is helping himself to the pan of lasagna! I screamed like in a horror movie... my husband ran up the stairs...Jack ran to hide by the couch...the other two dogs were eating what he dropped...and that's the sad sad story of lasagna.
My full day's work on one pan of lasagna....gone by way of big black meanie pants Jack. He's been lying on the floor beside the couch since I screamed and hasn't budged.

Besides sad lasagna...It's been a wonderful week and I'm enjoying the weekend!
Enjoy Presidents' Day off!

CURRENTLY FEBRUARY

I am once again linking up with FARLEY over at Oh' Boy 4th Grade!
It's always so fun reading other blogs and their "Currently".

Here's Mine!

OK, so I know it's weird...but I am loving that Hubby lost his job with Hostess! Yes, it's sad, he worked there for 18-19 years...then poof...Hostess/Wonderbread just shuts down in a snap. I was scared at first...and unemployment sucks...BUT he's like Mr. Mom! I work all day, come home to a clean house and dinner ready to go...and he even drives the kids to all their activities! I LOVE IT. He's always been super helpful at home... but this is less stressful (more stressful on the bank account-but somewhat "doable"). I kinda want him to stay unemployed for a little longer then some awesome job would just appear. I mean...he's worked his butt off since he was 15 with no time off...he deserves some time off...

I am in Illinois and it is darn cold here! I HATE cold weather. I'm not even sure why I was born here...hahaha.

So of course...I wish it were warm!

Since our household cut backs...I've waited too long to get my hair done...it's not looking good. My hair girl just texted me and said we may have to cancel my appointment tomorrow morning at 8AM...Her poor little girl slipped in tub, split chin open and they are going to ER. Hair...no big deal...take care of your little cutie! What's another week??????

PET PEEVES...OK, I admit...I have TONS of little pet peeves. I hate lying. Despise Lying. Loathe Lying. I may stretch the truth...then tell that I exaggerated... My family makes fun of me for repeating stories exactly. I hate when adults feel they need to lie. Just say what you need to say. People can take it. Kids lying...don't like that much either... Once you lie to me...the trust is gone.  Inconsistency...I am not always consistent...but most of the time I am...I can't deal with things constantly changing...I can handle change and embrace it...but it's hard when it's different rules for different people... especially at the work place. Open cabinet doors-JUST CLOSE THE DOORS when you are finished! Whiners- People who constantly whine about their lives. How they have it so tough and just can't believe how hard life is... Well, it's what you make of it... and if you whine a lot, you must not be making much of it! I'm not talking about venting or complaining once in a while...I'm talking those whiners...poor me...feel bad for me...I seek compliments constantly...You know those people!

So head on over to Farley and LINK UP! Don't forget to comment on my page...and two before your post...and one after your post...

Guess what? I've learned that the more pages you comment on...the more people will visit your page!

Have a warm weekend! Enjoy the Super Bowl! My Cowboys aren't playing...but I shall enjoy the commercials!
