Summer sure is getting in the way! haha
I'm linking up a day late and will probably be 982379837 on the list...but don't care :)

Link up with Farley and her beloved Currently!

LISTENING: Hubs is flipping through channels, falling asleep, changing channels, falling asleep...
LOVING: Summer, summer, summer! It's FINALLY HOT in Chicago and I am LOVING it! I LOVE the hot weather. I plan my day outside all day. (not loving the nasty storms we've had in IL this year...can we say storm/hail/wind damage??? not as bad as those poor people who lost their homes from those dang tornadoes)
THINKING: Everyone is BTS shopping and getting their classrooms ready... We are officially allowed in tomorrow. I don't see myself going in for at least another week. You all know I have a new job this year...So I don't have all those tedious things to do. I *think* I have ONE bulletin board in my office. So not worried... I mean, how weird will it be that I won't even have students the first couple of days of school?!?!? I can't even fathom this!
WANTING: Just ordered Learn Like a Pirate and Fish in a Tree on Saturday (yesterday) and it was on my front porch Sunday (TODAY)! Impressive Amazon Prime!!! Now, I want to dig into those books...I bet those will get my groove going (but I'm REALLY enjoying summer now). I'd enjoy them even more at The Dunes!
NEEDING: AHHH. Got a new Mac in June, and I JUST realized I haven't reinstalled all my fonts! So I'm stuck with "Chalkduster" for now.
B2S RAK: A new teacher inherited 17 years of great stuff! I have more to give away...And it's not old and unusable stuff. It's great stuff-for real.

Anywho, Link fun to chat with other people!

Guess Who's Back And Feeling Exhilarated?!

WOW! The teaching community has been quite inspiring this past week!
I didn't make it to Vegas. I was enjoying family time in the Caribbean! We went on our first cruise and it was AMAZING!

All this Periscoping going on!!! I haven't done it yet...But I've watched lots! I think I'll be ready to take the leap! I don't know what I'm going to say yet...but I'm gonna do it! You can find me @anchoredin3rdgr

As you see from my last post (forever ago), I will be in a new position next month. After 17 FABULOUS years in 3rd grade, I am the new Reading Specialist in my building. Talk about timing... I started working on this intense master's program last year... I honestly only did it because it would only take me a little over a year and I wanted to move on the pay scale.

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT that I'd LOVE it?!?! When I was working on assignments for class with my students, I was really loving what I was doing. I had one particular professor who acknowledged my work and would tell me things like, "Carrie, you really get it". I also had to present to our staff and had such positive feedback...I was like... THIS IS ME. THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO DO!
And cue the timing... This past school year I moved to another school within my district, I needed that for me too. Well, it just so happened that the reading teacher I co-taught with about 15 years ago was retiring. My district posted that job, I applied, the position was offered to me, and I said goodbye to my last set of 27 3rd graders.

I admit, I'm nervous. I am not an expert in reading. Sure, I have 17 years of THIRD grade behind me and now I'll have a second master's degree...but no expert in reading.
I have ideas. I have things I will want to work on improving in my school.  I have an excellent coworker who is experienced and has welcomed me into this new position. I'm excited!

Since I've returned from vacay, there's been this TPT blowup of TRIBES...I joined the 3rd grade tribe (don't want to waste all that expertise I can offer) and I joined a Reading Tribe (need some help from peeps who know), and I've been invited to other reading sites/Facebook pages. Periscope watching has been awesome. It's been exhilarating!

I've got some creating to do. I have some more reading to do. I have stuff to get going on! It's good to be back to blogging. I've learned SO MUCH this past year in my master's program and I can't wait to share.

Speaking of all this great blogging I'm going to do...I think I'm going to need a new name...But I don't want to get rid of "Anchored". What suggestions do you have?! Leave me some suggestions!

Talk to you SOON! Woo hoo!

Hello to anyone who is still with me!
I know I've been absent…
Bear with me.
I'll be back…eventually…

This program is kicking my tushy...

I will be starting a new position next year too!!!!

You're looking at the newest Reading Specialist!
Hanging up my many hats in 3rd Grade…Lifting the anchor and setting it down in another ocean of goodness…

I'll keep you posted! More goodness to come! I promise!

2015 Resolutions?!?!

I don't usually make New Year's resolutions…but thought this was a good linky and I like putting my goals on paper.
I'm linking up with The Third Wheel to share my goals for 2015.
HOME: I'm a piler. I like my piles… I should organize them better so they are out of sight… Need storage space. As I sit on the computer…I need to designate NO TECH time for myself.
WORK: I should be more consistent with Guided Reading and Guided Math. For some reason, this year has been rough. I've been using more of the approach of I teach, We try, You do alone… It's been successful, but I need to get those low and high kids in a better way…
HEALTH: As I said in a previous post…Last year this time-I gave up all pop. The past couple of months---it's been back. I drink a ton of water already (and I'm not a coffee drinker)…but need to cut out that pop. We have a treadmill now… My goal is just to use it. I'm not committing to times or miles, but to use it.
BLOG: With all I've got going on right now (Mom of 3 active girls, Grad School, Work, Jamberry, etc), It's been difficult to blog… and when I've blogged, it hasn't been valuable. I'm taking Grad School classes for my Master's in Reading! I've been learning lots! Lots to share! Need to blog about that stuff and the stuff going on in my classroom (Genius Hour, Coding, etc).

SoOoOo…. Link up and share yours!
Enjoy your day! This is my last day of Christmas Vacay….boo.

It's Currently January of 2015!

Well HELLO 2015! Lots of 2014 was rough…Looking forward to a clean slate.
One of my FAVORITE things of 2014 was going to my first Dallas Cowboys' game (at Soldier Field).
Hope we take it all the way!

I'm linking up with Farley and her Currently Linky…
Here's mine!
LISTENING: When I started writing this the kids were playing Deal or No Deal on the Wii. So funny to listen to them get bummed when a big money case is opened or excitement over a little dollar amount. Now they've moved on to watching TV. I have a feeling we will all be moving slowly today.
LOVING: I am seriously loving being home. I have 500,000 things I should be doing, but am just enjoying whatever happens. Back to reality on Monday.
We've enjoyed the zoo, bowling, dinners out, hanging out...

Look at how close the leopard was at the zoo! Usually he's up on top of the rock. He was so pretty up close!

THINKING: I took down one tree right after Christmas so it could get out to the curb for pick up-plus I didn't want the tree to dry out and get needles all over. LOVED having a fresh tree this year…

WANTING: I'd love a bunch of money to update our house. We've been here 12 years and still have the same carpet and furniture in the family room. I desperately need to update… Please donate your cash. HAHA.
NEEDING: I need to get lesson plans done for next week and get two discussion boards done. ick. I'm officially half way through my Reading Master's… I'll be happy when it's OVER…This other Master's will push me to the max lane on the pay scale. Couldn't pass it up…no telling what the next contract will bring.
YES: I WILL cut back on pop. I gave it up completely last year over Christmas Break… Just the past couple of months I started drinking it again…and it's ohhh so good!
MAYBE: I'll add exercise. We bought a treadmill for the family…I've done a mile. Need to be consistent… But I'm ok if I don't…I have too much going on that diet and exercise is just not a priority at the moment (I'm thankfully completely healthy besides that).
I WISH: I want to go on a big vacay this year with my family. Hoping to make it happen…but for now it's a wish.
Happy New Year! I hope 2015 is good to you!

It's CURRENTLY November!

Seems like I only make time these days for the Currently link up.
And tons of great things have been going on in my classroom to share!
But I haven't made time for blogging.
I really should be working on a Grad School Paper due today (I will after this).
I'm swamped lately.
Go ahead and link up with us over at Farley's page.

LISTENING- Not a sound in my house! Girls are still sleeping (this surprises me), dogs are quiet, no TV on…So weird.
LOVING-Last night my two oldest girls and I stayed in and watched a couple of movie off of Netflix. We watched Can't Buy Me Love…you know…the one from 1987 with a very young Patrick Dempsey.
The girls said it's just like the movies they watch now…but old. We enjoyed…
THEN…I was SO STUPID and suggested we watch My Girl. UGH! Why in the heck would I do that to myself??!?!?!?!?
They enjoyed that movie, but I sobbed (yes, I've seen it several times) and sobbed… A LOT.
THINKING-Last winter SUCKED. I know there are lots of you that loved it…but I HATED it. Record snows and record lows in Chicago…NO THANKS! I'm hoping it's not too bad…but they keep saying it will be… I'll just ignore them for now.
WANTING- It's simple…I need my Paul Mitchell Dry Wax. I've been out of it for about a week…bought something else to hold me over until I can get to Ulta…and it's not doing the trick.
NEEDING- You've all heard me complain about grad school…but it will continue…(the complaining)… I'll be glad when it's over and I'll be happy I did it. SO MUCH WORK. Yes, I'm learning lots… it's just these papers and assignments. Especially another paper on School Demographics…more about assessment systems…classroom profile… blah. My principal, reading specialists, and school secretary were AWESOME in helping me get the info I needed! Now…to write it all out…in a 2-3 page paper (I know it's not that bad).
READING-The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks…I actually haven't started it yet. I have been making myself read more for pleasure during the school year. I always said "I don't read for fun during the school year". How dumb is that? Now I force myself to find time to read. A few minutes here and there. I've read 5 books so far (besides all the grad school books and stuff).

Here's something I'm sure you saw on my Instagram…
Every year I have my 3rd graders write what makes them "batty". This time my whole team joined in!
Bats Everywhere!
One of our classroom aides made the awesome, gigantic Haunted House for a title!

Enjoy your "extra" hour!

Currently October 2014

Well, October is already here!
Blogging has taken a backseat to the rest of my crazy going-ons.
But, I'm popping in to do a quick Currently with Farley.

LISTENING- My girls are downstairs watching Disney. Whatever they are watching…the girl's voice is going right through me. Some shows drive me crazy.
LOVING- My husband is off tonight. He's been working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. We actually have NO OTHER activities today (holy moly-it's a miracle)! So we are headed out to the pumpkin patch. So excited!
THINKING- Pumpkin patch! It's a little too chilly for me here in Chicago, but the sun is shining and we have nothing else to do (well, besides cleaning and grocery shopping and grad school homework and entering grades into the computer).
WANTING- I wanna get my Halloween and Fall stuff out and up! When my husband got home this morning, he went to bring up all my stuff from the basement…well, he turned on the wet/dry vac to get some dirt up from last year's decorating and MICE ran out of the vac!!!! UGH UGH UGH!!!!! We live next to a farm so it's expected to get mice every year in the basement…but it still GROSSES ME OUT. He set some fresh traps. Don't really care if I offend anyone…the only good mouse is a dead one! HATE THEM. Knock on wood…they haven't made it to the rest of the house in previous years… Did I just jinx myself?
NEEDING- I need my hair cut and colored SO BAD. I need to get an appointment with my girl. I know she's been super busy too…
TRICK OR TREAT- I have a little trick. I delayed setting this up this year in my classroom, just because it was crazy trying to get my room together with a move and construction… then I realized how much I needed it!
My trick is…
Table Leaders. I know everyone has their own version. Each group in my classroom has a beanie baby or webkinz. I started the rotation at the left front person in each group. Whoever has the little animal on their desk is the table leader for the day.
When I'm collecting something or need to grab things for groups, the table leader does this. It's super easy for me to say "table leaders bring me the spelling tests" or "table leaders grab white boards for your group" or whatever.
This is not one of the jobs in our classroom. Our class has 27 kids and 27 jobs on the job chart. We are all responsible for something to make our classroom run efficiently and effectively.
The next day, the animal is passed to the left and that person becomes the leader for the day. It makes lots of things much easier on me and the kids love it too!
Enjoy your Sunday!
